It is always more fun to get a little exercise doing a fun and new sport activity. I would much rather be outside enjoying the great outdoors than sweating it out in a gym. While visiting Kailua Hawaii you can take on a new water sport and get some exercise.

For a little upper body work out rent a kayak and hit the waves and coves with the paddle. Hawaiian Water Sports has some great gear and wonderful tours. Let them take you on an adventure and learn some interesting things along the way. They will point out the Green Sea Turtles because they know were they are hiding. Flat Island area has some waves and the kayak staff will show you how to navigate them with out tipping over. This is a great way to feel like you are way out in the middle of the ocean but not to far. It’s fun.

Naish is who to call for some kite boarding. If you thought regular surfing was a bit crazy than check out the new versions of surfing. You could just watch from one of the rooms of the hotels kailua is famous for or you could get into the action.

If you just want to catch some rays and waves than head over to Kailua Sailboards and Kayaks for some surf boards action. They also have boogie boards, kayaks, windsurf boards, bike rentals and snorkeling equipment.

This beach has been voted a top place to swim, walk, cycle and surf. The area is filled with amazing scenery and wild life. One is bound to feel renewed after spending time in the nature of the island and its beaches. Don’t forget to top it all off with a great Hula. Let the locals show you what they got.

Roquetas de Mar hotels can be found right along the sandy beaches that have been filled with vacationers from all over the world. They come to this old fishing town to let the stresses of their busy lives get taken away with the easy tide. It is a simple and clean little town perfect for some napping and reading, walking and eating and a bit of exploring too. They have a few festivals that happen every year. If you come from the cold may I recommend the December beach party for you New Years Bash. Yes, leave behind the cold and crowded. Hit the beach and fresh air.

There are things to do here all year round. How about a day at the Plaza de Toros. Like any good Spanish city there has to be a bullring. Bullfighting is most associated with Spain but is also done in Portugal, southern France and other Latin American countries. It is a little barbaric for the westerner who is a PETA member, however, it is a tradition passed down for what seems like forever. It started as a prehistoric sacrifice as well as a Roman thing. You know the old man vs animal games that were so popular there.

Roquetas de Mar has a smaller bullring. It not only has bullfighting when the season allows but it also houses some concerts as they pass through. It is modeled after some of the other great bullrings like the Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas which is in Madrid and it is considered the most prestigious ring. In Seville Spain there is the La Maestranza. There is also a real popular ring called Plaza de Toros de Mexico located in Mexico. They all sand resembling the Roman Colosseum of course. So while your in Roquetas de Mar make sure you get out and see the traditions that make Spain so unique.

What’s going on with Maria Sharapova?

Maria Sharapova was formerly the World number one tennis player and at 17 year s old she beat Serena Williams to win Wimbledon. For those who don’t keep a watchful on the tennis world and every tournament it can seem as if Sharapova faded off into the distance to just become a spokesperson for Canon or any other number of modeling gigs.

However, Sharapova has won three Grand Slam singles title. She won the 2006 US Open and most recently the 2008 Australian Open. Also in 2008, she was named the world’s highest paid female athlete.

She seems to be off the tennis radar these days. She has fallen way down on the tennis rankings and is currently ranked as number 73 in the world. And so far this season it has shown. She pulled out of the 2009 Australian Open claiming she was not in tennis shape. She withdrew from the Barclays Dubai Tennis Championship as well. She withdrew from the Mutaua Madrilena Madrid Open as well. Because of her long hiatus her world ranking dropped considerably. It was once as low as 126 in the world.

She entered the French Open 2009 completely unseeded. It was her first Grand Slam tournament since her appearance at Wimbledon last year. She was defeated in the quarter finals. She did have an impressive showing.

Hopefully she can get herself back on track with all of the potential she showed earlier in her career. Perhaps it was just all a little too much too fast for the tennis ace. Her star just rose a little too quickly and she had trouble finding a common ground between her new found fame and her sport.

If she can start getting herself recognized again for her tennis she will surely begin to see the same type of prosperity.

One of the most diverse areas on the planet to hike is at Perth Australia. Get your backpacks and hiking boots on and hit the trails that are not to far from any Perth Hotels Australia . You might as well bring a sleeping bag, food water, hat, warm clothes and sunscreen cause you won’t want to stop hiking on of the best trails, The Bibbulmun Track. It’s one of the worlds top most bio diverse regions. It can take a whole week to traverse if you have the time and the ability to enjoy nature.

The Bibbulmun Track is the longest walking trail in Western Australia around 975 kilometers. The distance varies marginally as the track frequently re-aligns due to weather phenomena and other naturally occurring events.Kalamunda is the northern trailhead, a hilly suburb to Perth. Albany is the southern trailhead on the southern coast of Western Australia. The trail leaves Kalamunda traveling through Jarrah forest then enters the Karri forest and winds around the south. The Track emerges on the southern ocean for the final coastal run into Albany. It is endearingly referred to as the forest of the coast track.

There are at least 48 campsites to camp overnight or even longer if you like. The campsites facilities include three-sided shelters, bush toilet, picnic tables, water and campfires. The track even goes through several towns and villages. The Track is divided into 58 sections. It’s not uncommon for end to end or section walkers to walk more than one section in a day. An average length to travel is 18 Kilometers per day if you have 54 to 55 days to complete the trail. If your time is limited, you can take short walks and still enjoy the beauty Bibbulmun Track and still have something to talk to your friends about. Since the track is immense there are many places to start than just the trailhead due to the many hotels situated within walking distance from the Track itself. Bibbulmun Track is a hikers dream destination for adventure and pristine beauty and take advantage of the long distance trekking and/or bushwalking to see amazing scenery, birds and animals. You’ll come out of the trek a different person from the one who entered.

The 2009 French Open, mais oui!

Is it possible to be considered the #1 tennis player in the world, winning a record 14 Grand Slams, without ever winning the French Open? Yes it is. Pete Sampras, who’s now retired, did it.

It’s interesting to me that someone who’s generally considered one of the greatest tennis players of all time has never completed a Career Grand Slam, only a Small Slam. A Small Slam is when you’ve won only three of the four Grand Slam’s. Sampras over the span of his career has won 5 US Open, 7 Wimbledon and 2 Australian Open.

The reason is simple; it’s the surface that’s made the difference. The French Open is the only major tennis tournament to be held on clay courts. The red clay courts are made out of crushed shale, stone or brick and because of this the ball seems to grab onto the court slowing down the ball and producing a higher bounce than on the hard courts or grass courts that are played at the US Open, Australian Open and at Wimbledon.

This takes away the advantage of big serves, so serve-based players can’t dominate the game on this surface. Sampras was a big serve specialist and a quick-hard serve was key to his success. This is why Sampras never won the French Open.

Roger Federer, who is currently ranked World #2 has also never won the French Open. He holds the second best record for the most Grand Slams at 13, and I’m interested to see if he can break through this year to complete a Career Grand Slam by winning the 2009 French Open in Paris in May. If so, he can tie Sampras for the Grand Slam titles and have the one thing Sampras never did; a French Open singles title.

South African’s Seek Better Alcohol Control

Half of South Africa supports a draft bylaw that would prohibit the sale of alcohol in residential areas of Cape Town after 9pm. The bylaw would affect pubs, theaters, clubs and guesthouses in residentail areas. Polling done as part of the African Response’s 2010 Barometer also indicates that 41 percent of South Africa disagrees with the draft bylaw.

African Response’s 2010 Barometer is designed to track “public perceptions on the progress of South Africa’s preparations for the 2010 Soccer World Cup.” The poll is conducted monthly and the latest results reflect the views of 400 individuals in Cape Town, Durban, Pretoria, and Johannesburg.

Many residents are concerned about the impact of late night tourists in their neighborhoods during the event. Opponents are worried about limiting the options of European visitors who prefer to eat later and will be unable to go outside the city for dinner after 9pm. Five star hotels in Cape Town are watching the progress of the bylaw very closely as they prepare for an influx of World Cup fans next summer.

Other results in the recent report show that 51% believe that this bylaw should apply to the rest of South Africa while 42% disagreed. More importantly, 80% of participants are confident that South Africa will be ready by the time the World Cup begins.

The 2010 World Cup will be held in nine cities across South Africa between June 11 and July 11, 2010. More than 1.6 million tickets were requested in the first round of ticketing on March 31, 2009.

Rickshaw Run’s Spring Race

One of the newer adventures available for tourists in India is a rickshaw race. There are several different organized races. The Rickshaw Run is a popular event that takes teams made up of ordinary people from around the world and pits them against each other in a 2,500 mile race for charity.

This will be the first year that a Spring edition of the race will be held. Usually there is Winter Run that begins on New Year’s Day and a Monsoon Run in September. The Spring Run will be held April 11th – 25th.

Teams are requried to raise at least £1,000 for charity in order to participate in the challenginge course. Organizers make sure that racers get to experience all the extremes of the Indian subcontinent, from jungles to mountains, from dirt tracks to village streets.

The spring run route takes racers on a winding course from Shilong on the far eastern corner of India to the glamorous beaches of Goa on the western coast. Goa will be the perfect place to celebrate winning, or even just finishing, the race. It is a popular party destination, due to its amazing beaches, great food, lively nightclubs and an abundance of five star hotels Goa — and no doubt the exhausted racers will take full advantage of all the above.

The race vehicles are three-wheeled auto rickshaws with a massive 7HP and a 145.45cc engine. The top speed of the rickshaws is supposedly 55 mph, though racers on steep descents sometimes exceed that speed. Because the rickshaws are designed for short distances, racers can expect repairs to be an important part of their two-week experience.

Sixty teams are expected to race, raising money for charity. Some of the countries represented in the Spring Run include New Zealand, Belgium, USA, Australia, Ireland, Wales, Switzerland, Canada, and the United Kingdom. Due to the emphasis on amateur fun, some race teams are multi-national and only meet each other at the start of the race.
