The Great Lakes Aquarium is a Great Place for Kids

The aquarium in Duluth, MN is very cool. It is an enormous three story building that focuses on fresh water exhibits. It is the largest aquarium in the United States that is focused on fresh water fish displays. The Great Lake Aquarium is housed in a three story building on the shores of Lake Superior. There are tanks and aquariums around the building too. All together there is some where around one hundred twenty thousand gallons of water in the all the tanks and aquariums put together. This facility cost about thirty five million dollars to build and was under construction for almost four years. The exhibits in the main aquarium are based on Lake Superior habitats and the St. Louis River areas.

We love to make reservations at hotels Duluth for a weekend and drive up there to take the kids to see the fish, as they would say. It is always a really fun time and the kids love to see the fish, they are fascinated all day we are there it is so worth the money for the entertainment alone. But they learn tons too. So it is all god all the way around.

When we take the kids we usually leave real early on a Saturday morning and usually the kids keep sleeping so we get to drive up there in relative peace and quiet. By the time we get there they are usually waking up so we get some breakfast and by that time the aquarium has opened and the fun begins. The kids get so excited when they see these enormous fish that are bigger than they are. They go from scared to fascinated to curious all in a matter of seconds. We always end up there the whole day. Waiting the fish all morning then some lunch and an afternoon full of the same. It is interesting to see the different habitats and types of fish that live in them. The kids learn a lot and get a greater appreciation for out natural world.
