Dubai Double Take
I guess I expected a bunch of oil derricks sticking out of the ground in the city around Dubai, kind of like Oklahoma City or something, I do not know what I expected. But as I landed with May, accompanying her on her photo tour of Dubai in which she wants to document the lives of expats living and working here. We are into food so we thought a visit to Al Dhiyafeh Road where food from the Middle East and Asia can be found in abundance, so we are told from a source at the luxury Hotel Dubai, and that was fine with us. The canyon like down town kept us staring at the buildings like tourists. We looked up at the tallest tower in the world and wished we could put the Petronas Tower from Malaysia next to it as a contrast in styles, but still we wondered about these giant building and what they mean. I guess it means ya got means. And if ya got means you might as well go golf here, as golf is huge the courses stunning, or so I am told. We talked to Ewan MacGregg from Scotland who tends one golf course and how he liked living in Dubai, which he seems to like just fine. He discussed the vagaries of the weather and how it is kept green and the amount of water needed to keep a desert course going, which is a secret. We tried to get on the Emirates Golf Club just to see it but we were not able to do so. Back at Al Dhiyafeh Road we had Indian food that was cheap and delicious, and Lebanese food too. We wandered around in search of good stories and found out that many people here were from somewhere else.
