Water sports to enjoy in Mallorca

The largest of the islands off of mainland Spain is Mallorca, in the tranquil clear waters of the Mediterranean.  The weather in the summer is moderate and the winters are mild, and the island boasts over 300 days of beautiful sunshine.  Mallorca has been a popular destination for travelers from Europe for about 60 years.  The weather, the spectacular beauty of the lush green landscape, the white beaches and the aqua blue water offers a bit of tranquility and peace, especially to those coming from colder or dreary climates.  There are many aspects of the culture to enjoy on land, with the restaurants featuring exotic and spicy Spanish dishes, the nightlife, and the five star hotels Mallorca is quite a draw for the rest of the world.

Due to the great climate, Mallorca has become a favorite spot for outdoor sportsman, water sports to be precise.  The absolutely perfect median temperature makes it possible to enjoy the water sports just about year round.  During the summer, when the air is warm, tourists find jet skiing a thrilling way to cool off and have some high energy, high speed fun.  Riding on a jet ski is a bit like riding a motorcycle at top speed on winding mountain roads, although without boundaries.  In Mallorca it is necessary to have an operators license to ride the open sea, however if one does not have a license there are restricted areas that make it possible to still enjoy the thrill.  Two such beaches have areas such as this, Santa Ponsa and El Arenal.

Should one be brave enough to let another have control of the boat, water skiing and wake boarding are popular as well.  It is suggested to wear wet suits instead of just bathing suits, as falling to the water at such high speeds may prove to be a bit painful.  All that said, it isn’t as hard as it may seem and it’s a great way to feel the adrenaline of high speeds and open air and water.  Wake boarding is a mix of skiing and surfing.  Wake boards are pulled behind speed boats, but it’s like surfing in that you are on a single board, and not using two skis.  This activity has gained in popularity over the years.  It is also easier, once you are skilled, to do flips and other such acrobatics on wake boards than it is to try and do that fun on two skis.  Inner tubes and parachutes offer up a bit of the speed as well, as they are pulled by the boats, but they don’t require as much physical exertion.  A bit more of a relaxing adrenaline rush.  All in all, the island of Mallorca offers many ways to experience the water and to insure most exciting vacation memories.
