Hong Kong’s Victoria Peak
No trip to Hong Kong would be complete without a visit to Victoria Peak. In addition to being a beautiful visual landmark for the city, the Peak has been developed with lovely parks and viewing areas as well as a number of recreational attractions and shopping areas. The best hotels Hong Kong can easily provide information on reaching the Peak and the various activities and sites available on the mountain.
The mountain itself is also known as Mount Austin, though most simply call it “The Peak.” It rises 1810 feet aboe sea level and is the highest mountain on Hong Kong Island. However, it’s not the highest in all of Hong Kong, which includes the New Territories, Lantau Island, Kowloon Peninsula and several hundred small islands.
Victoria Peak is best known for its breath-taking views of the city of Hong Kong as well as the surrounding countryside and islands. There are also beautiful views of Victoria Harbour. The Peak has many walking trails that provide views from all sides of the mountain. There is a nightly laser show for those who want to view the city’s lights.
The Peak Tower was designed to give visitors something to do besides look down on the city. It contains a number of shops and restaurants and houses the station of the Peak Tram, which is the usual mode of transporation up and down the mountain. The Peak Galleria is another shopping center and houses the bus station for routes around the Peak.
Other sites of interest are the Victoria Peak Garden and the walk along Lugard Road.
