Finding Entertainment in Chennai

As a business, industrial, and cultural center of India, the city of Chennai has a lot to offer tourists.  Museums, parks, beaches, and historic sites abound. As the capital of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, there are government buildings and monuments to Tamil culture throughout the city.  Visitors will also find a number of five star Chennai hotels that cater to leisure visitors as well as business and diplomatic travelers.

After touring historic sites or tending to business interests, visitors will want to relax and have a good time and Chennai has a number of venues designed for just that.

A day spent at one of the city’s three amusement parks is a great way to for families to have fun together or for adults to let off a little steam.  There is also a water sports park on the edge of the city that provides ample opportunities for fun in the sun.

As the home of Kollywood, India’s thriving Tamil movie industry, the city features over one hundred movie theaters. While most films are in the local Tamil language, there are also movies showing in English, Hindi and Telugu.  Some studios offer tours and sometimes visitors will come across film crews on location throughout the city.

Sports fans will find several popular venues. Chennai is known for its cricket matches as well as tennis and motorsports.

Chennai restaurants feature local Tamil cuisine prepared to perfection.  Other restaurants have regional cuisines from across India on the menu. A few even offer international foods from Europe, America, and other parts of Asia.  After dinner, there are pool parlours, clubs, bars, and lounges to explore.

The city is known for its theater and dance as well as classical Indian music. There are a number of popular performance venues and each year the city hosts the Madras Music Season which celebrates classical dance, theater and music. It is the largest cultural event in the world and offers not only performances, but workshops, discussions, and fabulous food.
